Congratulations to Ruth Mackenzie who completed her challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on 8th October! Taking just 4 days to climb, Ruth came across some difficulties – suffering from altitude sickness, nose bleeds, headaches and stomach cramps. However probably the most challenging obstacle to overcome was the lack of oxygen at these high altitudes, which left Ruth short of breath and made every step that much harder. Ruth admits it “physically and mentally pushed me to the limit…but it was so worth it”.

That’s because Ruth has raised an incredible £5000.28 to date! Some of that money includes that which was raised at her ‘Through the Decades’ dance, held just before she left for Africa, where all who attended dressed in the style of their favourite decade. The night was a huge success, raising £1800.
Thank you to all who have sponsored Ruth or donated money in some way. Sincere thanks to Ruth for undertaking this phenomenal challenge on her own to raise money for the Fund. The money will go a long way in helping create some happy memories for CF sufferers. See our Special Treats page to see how some have already benefitted from previous fundraising efforts.

Some committee members and Ruth’s friends gathered at Stornoway Airport to welcome her home and listen to some of her incredible stories over a nice cup of tea.
